Protection & Risk

What Insurance Comes With an AirNode?

Every AirNode purchase includes first-year insurance bundled into the price. After year one, insurance renews at 1.5% of the equipment value annually. You can also use private third-party insurance if you prefer. If you sell your AirNode, the insurance stays with the device.

Bundled Insurance (Year 1 Free)

All AirNode packages include the first year of insurance at no additional cost. This covers the hardware during its initial deployment period.

1.5% / Year After Year 1

Renewal examples: Spark ~$1/yr, Portal ~$135/yr, Titan ~$1,500/yr. Renew through the AirNode portal.

10-Year Limited Warranty

AirNodes from authorized distributors include a 10-year limited hardware warranty. If the device fully stops working, it will be repaired locally, replaced, or compensated based on estimated remaining reward value.

Included

Covers manufacturing defects and hardware failure. Professional maintenance teams handle ongoing upkeep.

Understand the Risks

What Are the Risks of Owning an AirNode?

AirNode ownership is a real infrastructure investment with real risks. Here is what you should know before investing.

  • Natural disaster or war: World Mobile’s terms include a force majeure clause. Events like hurricanes, earthquakes, floods, war, and civil unrest may excuse World Mobile from performance obligations. Whether the bundled insurance covers hardware damaged in these events is not publicly specified. Consider supplemental private insurance for high-value deployments.
  • Hardware theft or vandalism: AirNodes are physical devices installed at host locations. While professional teams select secure installation sites, theft and vandalism are possible, especially for outdoor cellular models. Review your insurance coverage carefully.
  • Regulatory changes: AirNodes operate on licensed spectrum (CBRS, Band 71). Changes in telecom regulations could affect spectrum access and network operations. AirNodes are region-specific and cannot be redeployed to a different country.
  • Platform dependency: Your AirNode hardware depends on World Mobile’s network software, management platform, and continued operations to function. If World Mobile were to cease operations, the hardware would have no network to connect to. Earning projections assume continued platform availability.
  • Liability cap: World Mobile’s terms cap their total aggregate liability at $100 or one month’s service fee, whichever is less. They are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages including loss of profits.
  • Earnings are not guaranteed: APY projections are estimates based on current network parameters. Actual rewards depend on subscriber count, uptime, data usage, and other factors that change over time. You may earn less than projected or nothing at all.
Three Ways to Participate

Do You Need to Buy an AirNode to Participate?

No. You can participate as a Host by providing a physical location for someone else’s AirNode, without purchasing any hardware. There are three roles in the AirNode ecosystem, and each one earns a share of the rewards.

Two people meeting about AirNode hosting at a local business
🏠

Host

Provide a physical location, like a rooftop or building, for an AirNode. You do not purchase or manage any hardware. A professional team handles everything. You earn a share of rewards just for offering the space.

No Purchase Needed
💻

Operator

Purchase and manage an AirNode remotely. You own the hardware but it is installed at someone else’s host location. Everything is managed through your online dashboard. You earn the operator’s share of rewards.

Remote Ownership
🌟

Host-Operator

Do both. Own the AirNode and provide the location. This gives you the full share of rewards since there is no split between host and operator. Maximum earnings, complete control.

Maximum Rewards

Live in Washington State?

If you are in the Bellingham or greater Washington area, you could offer your rooftop or property as a host location for AirNode deployment. No purchase required, just the space. HexyNodes is building a community powered wireless network in the region and we are looking for host partners.

Reward Mechanics

When and How Do AirNode Operators Get Paid?

AirNode operators earn rewards based on several factors. After a given month, rewards become claimable 30 days later, with payments arriving within 5 working days.

  1. 1

    Subscriber Activity

The primary driver. More subscribers connecting through your coverage area means higher earnings.

  2. 2

    Uptime and Quality

Consistent uptime and strong connection quality increase your reward multiplier. Extended downtime reduces it.

  3. 3

    Overwatch Bonus (Titan Only)

Titan operators earn an additional percentage for maintaining the Band 71 backbone layer that the entire network relies on.

  4. 4

    Referral Rewards

Recruit other operators and hosts to earn referral bonuses on top of your regular AirNode earnings.

Questions and Answers

AirNode FAQ

What is an AirNode?
An AirNode is a physical wireless radio that provides coverage on the World Mobile network. Instead of one carrier owning all infrastructure, AirNodes are owned and operated by everyday people and businesses who earn rewards for connecting subscribers. You purchase one, a professional team installs it at a host location, and you manage everything remotely through your dashboard.
What are the different types of AirNodes?
World Mobile offers six AirNode models across three regions. The Ember region (Pakistan) includes the Ember (distribution gateway, the only model currently available for purchase) and the Spark (Wi-Fi hotspot, coming soon). The Pulse region (USA) includes the Pulse (fixed wireless), Portal (CBRS cellular), and the Titan (Band 71 macro base station). All Pulse models are coming soon. A third region called Frontier (Philippines) is in development with pricing still to be announced.
Do all AirNodes require a host?
Yes. Every AirNode needs a physical location where it is installed. This is called a host site. For some models like Spark and Pulse, the host coordination and installation is handled before the node goes on sale. For Portal and Titan models, a Network Builder coordinates with local hosts to find the best installation site. In all cases, the operator (you) manages the AirNode remotely and never needs to touch the hardware.
How much does an AirNode cost?
AirNode prices range from $62.99 for the Spark all the way up to $100,000 or more for the Titan. The Ember costs $165, the Pulse is $749, the Portal is $9,000, and Frontier pricing has not been announced yet. All packages include hardware, software, licenses, first year hex fees, and first year insurance.
Do I need technical skills to operate an AirNode?
No. AirNode operation is entirely remote. Professional teams handle all physical installation and maintenance. You manage your AirNode through an online dashboard where you can monitor performance, track earnings, and manage settings. The entire model is designed so you can buy and earn without ever visiting the installation site.
How do AirNode operators earn money?
Earnings depend on the model. Spark AirNodes earn a flat monthly reward. The Pulse earns performance based rewards tied to throughput and uptime. Cellular models (Portal, Titan) earn subscriber based rewards that grow as more people connect through your coverage area. Titan operators also receive an additional overwatch bonus for providing backbone coverage.
What is the projected return on investment?
Current projections offer up to 40% APY, though actual returns depend on network activity, subscriber count, uptime, and your specific model. A $9,000 Portal at 40% APY would generate approximately $3,600 in the first year. Use the calculator on this page to project returns for any model. These are estimates, not guarantees.
Where are AirNodes available?
AirNode availability depends on the region. The Ember region covers Pakistan (Lahore, Islamabad, Faisalabad, Multan) and includes the Ember and Spark models. The Pulse region covers the United States (Nevada, California, Utah, New Mexico) and includes the Pulse, Portal, and Titan models. A third region called Frontier (Philippines) is in development with pricing still to be announced.
What is the difference between a Host, Operator, and Host-Operator?
A Host provides a physical location for an AirNode but does not purchase or manage the hardware. An Operator purchases and manages an AirNode remotely but does not provide the installation site. A Host-Operator does both, owning the hardware and providing the location, which means they receive the full share of rewards.
Who installs AirNodes?
Installation is always handled by professional teams. In Pakistan, WorldCall (World Mobile’s local partner) manages deployment and maintenance for Ember and Spark AirNodes. In the United States, Pulse units are pre-deployed before sale, while World Mobile technicians install Portal and Titan models. The Titan specifically requires a licensed professional installer due to its Band 71 spectrum requirements.
Can I buy an AirNode from a different region?
AirNodes are region specific because they operate on locally licensed spectrum and are subject to that country’s telecommunications regulations. A Pulse AirNode purchased for the US market cannot be deployed in Pakistan, and vice versa.
What is the Titan’s overwatch bonus?
The Titan is the only AirNode model that earns an overwatch bonus. Because Titan provides backbone coverage using Band 71 (600 MHz) spectrum, it serves as the foundation layer that other AirNodes connect through. This dual role means Titan operators earn both standard subscriber based rewards and an additional overwatch percentage for maintaining the network backbone.
Were AirNodes used in disaster relief?
Yes. During Hurricane Helene in 2024, Portal AirNodes were deployed by Black Hawk helicopter to restore cellular communication in North Carolina after traditional infrastructure was destroyed. This demonstrated the portability and resilience of decentralized wireless coverage.
What is the Ember AirNode?
The Ember is a $165 distribution layer device in Pakistan that sits between the ISP backbone and downstream Spark AirNodes. It is a ruggedized outdoor gateway installed in street cabinets by World Mobile engineers. Ember AirNodes complement Sparks by providing the infrastructure connection that allows them to serve subscribers.
How long does an AirNode last?
The Spark AirNode has a projected 14-year lifespan. Other models are built for long-term outdoor deployment with industrial-grade hardware. All AirNode packages include first-year insurance, and ongoing maintenance is handled by the professional deployment teams.
What insurance comes with an AirNode?
All AirNode purchases include first-year insurance bundled into the price. After the first year, insurance renews at approximately 1.5% of the equipment value annually. For a Spark that is less than $1 per year. For a Portal it is roughly $135 per year. For a Titan it is approximately $1,500 per year. You can also use private third-party insurance instead of World Mobile’s offering. If you sell your AirNode, the insurance stays with the device. Renew through the AirNode portal at airnode.worldmobile.io.
What are the risks of owning an AirNode?
AirNode ownership carries real risks. World Mobile’s terms include a force majeure clause covering acts of God, war, terrorism, fire, flood, and network disruptions, meaning they are not liable for service interruptions caused by these events. Their total liability is capped at $100. You own physical hardware, but it depends on World Mobile’s network and software platform to function. If World Mobile ceases operations, the hardware would have no network to connect to. Regulatory changes could affect spectrum licensing. These are real infrastructure investments and this is not financial advice. Do your own research before investing.
Is there a warranty on AirNodes?
AirNodes purchased through authorized distributors like the Club Store include a 10-year limited hardware warranty. If the device fully stops working, they will repair it locally, replace it, or compensate you based on the estimated remaining reward value, whichever costs less. World Mobile’s general terms provide services on an AS IS basis, but written warranties included with the device override this for their specific terms.
